What Type Of Wood Should I Be Burning?
The lower the moisture content of the wood you burn, the better! Oak, hickory, and ash wood are all well-seasoned, meaning that their moisture content is very low. This prevents excess smoke buildup and improves the efficiency of your burning as a whole.
How Can I Dispose Of The Ashes After A Burn?
Be patient! Wait until your fireplace has completely cooled off before attempting to remove the ashes. To prevent fires, scoop the ashes into a heavy-duty metal bucket and close the top tightly. Leave it on a non-combustible surface for at least 3 days before you dispose of it.
How Can I Control My Burn In The Fireplace?
Make sure that you don’t close the flue damper completely during your burn. Use the combustion air intake to control how big or small the fire is. The wider you open the valve, the stronger and hotter the fire will be.
How Often Should I Clean My Chimney?
Make sure that you get your chimney professionally inspected and cleaned on an annual basis. This helps your fires burn more cleanly and prevents any chimney fires from occurring.
What Is Causing Excess Smoke Buildup During Fireplace Usage?
This is usually the result of closed dampers, wet wood, or a cold chimney. Ensure that the flue damper is completely open before you start burning, and use dry wood to prevent this issue from popping up.
